Otter Creek Used Books (down the stairs) with Green Mountain Shoe & Apparel (upstairs)

Let the Book find you!

Otter Creek Used Books is located in downtown Middlebury, Vermont, home of Middlebury College. We offer a large collection of used books – fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi, mysteries and everything in between. Hopefully something to satisfy your interests. We have been currently working on remodeling our space which is a flight of stairs down from Green Mountain Shoe & Apparel. We are always adding new inventory – everyday! We hope to offer books online soon. Maybe. Our philosophy is, sure, you can buy books online and never touch it until it arrives in the mail but there is nothing like holding a book that you have been searching for. Nothing! Holding a book in your hands has to be one of the best things in life! So stop in the next time you are in Middlebury and discover what we have to offer. Just maybe it is that book you have been searching for and if not, well, maybe something else might catch your eye!

Store Hours: 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday -  Saturday. Open by chance Sundays.

Thanks, Isaac! I certainly overlooked that but thanks to your suggestion I added it for now on the About page. I’ll see about adding the number to the top banner. Thanks!

I’m looking for a used ppbk copy of the mystery: JUSTICE HALL by Laurie R. King, publ’d 2002 (maybe, not important to me). Also, any other bks by this other would interest me–in your ppbk mystery section?

Any help you can offer is muchly appreciated.

Looked for Laurie R. King books but unfortunately at this time we don’t have any. We will keep watch out for some and when we get some will send you an email. Thanks for thinking of Otter Creek Used Books!

I am in the process of downsizing and have many resource books for teachers. Are these books you would be interested in?

I might be interested, Colleen but I guess I would have to know more about what you have. I do have a number of home schoolers who frequent the store so I’ve been trying to keep up the inventory.

I do have to note that unfortunately I am at a point where I’m not able to purchase books and probably won’t be until late next August.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your response! I have elementary teaching resource books, but I am looking to get rid of them this summer/fall. If you were interested in knowing titles, I would be willing to send them to you. However, if you are unable to purchase at this time, then I will keep you mind in the future. Thanks for your time!

Are you currently buying used books from people? If so, what is the process?

Did you respond to Elizabeth’s comment (March 2, 2009)? I don’t see it and would be interested in the same information.

I did respond to Elizabeth’s comment. At least I thought did. I think she put that question on another page, too. Anyways, for right now, I’m not currently buying. I’m wanting to make doubly sure I make it through May. That’s for buying books. I do offer store credit, too.

If you are just interested in selling me your books and you can wait until the end of May just call the store before you come in. To make sure I’m here. If you would like to trade – store credit – then come in anytime. There is a back door off the alley which makes it easier in bringing in boxes. And to avoid the flight of stairs.

Please let me know if you have any questions! And thanks for thinking of me!

Wow, I am so inspired. I would love to pick your brain – I am planning on opening a used bookstore myself, but I think it will be a lot different than yours (which is good, I think, for both parties). Sounds like you’ve ridden this ride a little, and I really need to network and try to figure out how to do this!

Hi! I have owned the store for almost four years. The first year I continued to work at my full-time job to pay the store’s bills. Finally I reached a point where I wanted and needed to be here in the store full-time. It was a huge leap of faith because the store wasn’t paying its own bills at that point. But somehow it started to and now it is. I’ve been asked by a number of people what is my secret of turning around this business. I really don’t know except that I’m being me and I recognize I’m all about customer service. I am a Main Street business and that is how I run the store. I was raised here in the Midd area and well, here I still am so I also infuse my community-spirit. Oh, this is a Sunday-talk. I’m open when I’m usually closed recharging my batteries. I have no idea how owners can maintain saneness and work seven days! And I’m an owner of used bookstore where there are no rules, and tons of books at my fingertips to read. Anyways, enough of me blabbing (or typing). Ask away and I will do my best to answer your questions.

Questions for you – where are you located and how would your store be different? Curious and maybe I can pick up a couple of ideas. And then, of course, networking! That is always a plus!

      Best of luck!
